Foxwood at Geneva National is Perfect Getaway

Ten years ago Doug and Lisa Shuma bought a condo at Geneva National for an occasional summer weekend golf escape. The suburban Chicago couple soon found themselves spending just about every weekend all year long at their getaway retreat.

Not unhappy with their condo, the Shumas were playing golf one day and found themselves taken with some land that at the time they didn’t even know was being developed. Soon, they were planning a new home at Foxwood at Geneva National, where they were the first family to move into the beautifully private and secure community this spring.

‘We thought it was a great spot,” said Lisa Shuma. After Doug did the initial research, talked to the builder and shared the plans with her it was an easy decision. “I said absolutely…. The product they were developing was pretty spectacular—the houses are well built and they look beautiful.”

The Shumas not only were able to pick everything from flooring to cabinetry, they even had the ability to modify Foxwood’s floor plans to include a great room for entertaining on the lower level.

“Building this house was a very good experience,” said Doug Shuma. “The builders’ had our cell phone numbers and we had theirs. They called us if they had questions, and they were open to our input.”

A ranch with a walk-out lower level, the Shuma’s home has two full master bedroom suites and a kitchen and dining area, with a deck off the kitchen on the main level, and another two bedrooms and roomy great room with a bar on the lower level, all overlooking the 13th hole of the Trevino Course.

The architectural details and the spacious feel of the home were a big draw for the Shumas. Lisa particularly enjoyed the interior design process and the opportunity to personally select every detail and finish. She praised the design center and consultant Foxwood uses in Antioch, saying the location and great range of choices added to the convenience.

The friends they’ve made at Geneva National over the years are just as important as the terrific golf courses and serene landscape. “Even though we had the smallest place up here of all of our friends, everybody always ended up at our home,” Lisa said. With their new more spacious and inviting home, the Shumas have the perfect spot for entertaining and impromptu gatherings.

“We’re so happy here,” Lisa said, adding that their friends and visitors have all commented on the beauty of their new home.

From working on their own golf games and volunteering at tournaments to participating in many activities at the Geneva National Club, the Shumas can stay as busy as they want. “We used to call it summer camp up here,” laughed Doug.
